I'm so glad I removed most of my FB photos several years ago, following my daughter's advice. Man, was it tedious. Heaven forfend they would make it easy for us. But I finally got them all removed. I very rarely use FB or IG anymore. Don't miss them a bit. Plenty of other more pleasant platforms around (like this one).

Hi Lissa! Great to see you here. I LOVE this platform, too.

Tip: double-check on your mobile app. My mom had everything turned off and the setting was still toggled to ON. x

Ooh tricky. I don't have them on my phone, thank goodness.

Always take photos wearing hats or sunglasses, or regular glasses. Facial recognition works poorly on faces with additional features and complexity. Big smiles, stick out your tongue, laugh. Take profiles or pics with big shadows across your face. Trust me. This is my job.

How and to what degree does this affect desktop/webpage users? I do Facebook over my laptop computer. I want to make sure I don't let any important pro-privacy settings slip through Meta's cracks. Thank you in advance.

From what I've read so far, it appears that only the mobile app offers this setting option. On desktop, you can do a FB "privacy checkup" here https://www.facebook.com/privacy/unified_checkup/

Hopefully that helps you!

You could also download the app, log in, toggle the setting to OFF, and then remove the app.

Thank you so much for posting this. I don't often do reels or stories but when I checked my settings those two option were toggled on and I could swear I've never seen the message before!

Hi LM - it doesn't matter what you post or how you post it. If you go into your FB settings and follow the direx above, you'll probably find that the setting is most likely still toggled to ON. I could be wrong! I hope I'm wrong. x

I checked the settings and they were toggled on, even though I've never given them permission to do that. Sneaky people! I hate it when they do stuff like that.

SEE??? It's crazy-making. I'm so glad you checked!

People need to know what Meta is doing with their personal property.

I've received SO MANY COMMENTS about this post.

It's crucial to keep in mind that even if you don't have the FB app on your mobile or tablet, the setting is still toggled on!

Fix: Download the app, sign in, go to settings, and follow the directions above. Then, toggle off and delete the app.

ALSO: If you once turned off photo-sharing on FB, do it again. Every person I've interacted with so far (hundreds at this point) on this issue, they've ALL had it toggled to on.
