After cutting way, WAY back, I still maintain a newsletter here on SS and use Instagram as both have a good bookish community that I enjoy. One thing that strikes me with the successful marketing efforts is that most, if not al,l of the authors using them are already a success. So, they could potentially just put on a burlap sack, stand on a street corner with a sign that announces who they are, and would likely get a long line of fans. Not so for the "regular" authors who struggle to be seen.
